I am very excited to get to know your students this year. First grade is a time when students are learning about letters and sounds and become readers! During this year, your student will be learning many new words and begin independently reading. This can be done at home by practicing colored sight word cards and reading take home books. This year, your students will be learning about numbers and how they connect to the world around us. Practice counting at home and completing math practice that will be sent home.

My name is Amanda Irwin and I have been teaching in the Altoona Area School District since 2015.
I am orginially from Maryland, however I attended Penn State Altoona for my teaching degree. In 2012, I graduated with my Bachelors of Science degree in Kindergarten and Elementary Education.In 2019, I received my Master's degree in Reading Specialist and Literacy Coach.
